D locus
Summary
Dogs come in so many different colours, and their coat colours are created by the interactions of many different genes. The D locus can create some special and beautiful coat colours, including the distinctive silvery coat seen in Weimeraners.
It is a good idea to choose our D locus panel when you aren't sure which D locus alleles might be found in your dog. However if you are experienced and already know what you are after, you can order individual tests for either just d (the common type) or just d2 (seen in Chow Chows and Thai Ridgebacks).
We report results from the D locus panel as either n for normal or negative, d, or d2. It does not include the rare d3 allele.
