Coat type

Summary

Panels are groups of tests that are often chosen together.

This panel includes four tests for coat traits that control coat length, curl, shedding, and furnishings. These tests are length (L but not L2), curl, shedding and improper coat. L2 can be added as an extra for dog breeds that require it.

Dogs with long coats, furnishings (this means without improper coat) and a low-shedding genotype will have low-shedding, constantly growing coats that require regular clipping. Many owners choose these dogs to minimise allergy issues. Short coats with low shedding are low maintenance but can still produce quite a lot of hair with seasonal shedding. High-shedding dogs can have beautiful soft fluffy coats that feel and look delightful.

More information about each of these coat traits is available on their individual pages.
