Why test for coat furnishings?
Furnishings are a sort of coat that gives dogs charismatic long moustaches and eyebrows. You see this in the cute faces of the Westie and Scottie breeds.
In some breeds such as Dachshunds, and breed crosses such as Goldendoodles and Labradoodles, puppies may either inherit long facial furnishings or shorter facial hair. Breeders can use this test to help predict if their dog will pass furnishings onto some or all of their puppies.
Furnished dogs are also lower-shedding than those without furnishings. This test is part of our shedding panel. The gene for furnishings is described in Cadieu et al. (2009): doi: 10.1126/science.1177808
